To mobilize communities, Philadelphia and beyond, to protect their environment through citizen science, education, and action-oriented cleanups focused on mitigating plastic pollution.
Our Vision
Empowering passionate environmental stewards to lead communities towards a healthy, thriving future, free from the burden of plastic waste.
New publication alert! Ever wanted to know how weathering affects the different physicochemical properties of plastics? Well, this is the resource for you!
In this study, we explored how different modes of weathering (artificial and full-spectrum radiation) affect the surface structures and chemical composition of the 10 most common plastics, resulting in the evolution of their fluorescence behavior with Nile Red staining. Interestingly, plastics did not evolve in a straightforward fashion, and the observed trends were highly polymer-dependent.
Additionally, in this paper, we demonstrated the robustness of FIMAP in distinguishing microplastics from one another, bringing us one step closer to developing a system that can be applied to environmental samples!!
