As cooped up in the lab as I may be, I like to think of myself as an artist. Here is my submission for ecoartspace’s 2026 Water World art competition.

 

In the piece, “Making the Invisible Visible,” different microplastics stained with Nile Red are depicted across varying degrees of weathering. Due to their physicochemical properties and differing susceptibility to UV-induced oxidation, these polymers exhibit distinct fluorescence behaviors under imaging.
